Frequently Asked Questions

How many people will be in my group during training?

Our group sizes vary based on the type of Kung Fu that will be practiced. In most instances, the more people training together, the better your experience will be.

Can I get one-on-one training with a Shifu?

Yes. We offer Private Training Sessions with Head Coach – Master Shifu Yanjun, Master Shi Yanpeng, and Master Shi Yanning. These private lessons will take place on weekends at an additional cost.

What happens if I’m injured while training?

We work closely with two hospitals in the city. One uses holistic and herbal remedies for problems such as illness or slight injury. The other hospital specializes in Kung Fu and sports medicine to provide relief for body pain, strains, tendonitis, and more.

Do you provide pain relief on the temple grounds?

The Shaolin Temple prepares medical patches onsite for our students. You may purchase these to use as needed.

What kind of toilet can I expect while staying at the temple?

All students will have access to standard, traditional squatting toilets while staying at the temple.

Will I be sharing a room with members of the opposite sex?

No. Only members of the same sex will be allowed access to the shared monk rooms.

Do you offer scholarships for training?

Yes. Some students are eligible for scholarships. Make sure to ask about the requirements and eligibility status during your enrollment call.

Will I get a discount if I study for multiple years?

No. There are no special discounts given for multiple years of training. Each year you stay, the fee is $5980 USD. If you choose to stay multiple years, you will not be responsible for paying the application fee.

Can I get a discount if I’m a returning student?

Yes. The first time you return, you’ll receive a 5% discount on your admission. Each time you return after that, you’ll receive a 10% discount off your admission. All returning students will NOT pay the application fee.

What happens if I don’t show up for training once I’m enrolled?

Lining up for training is mandatory. The only time you’ll be excused from line up is if you are extremely ill (in which case you’ll need to alert the administrative personnel). Showing up late or missing your lineup time will result in a punishment from your Shifu. They will decide what that punishment is.

Am I required to wear a uniform?

Yes. You must wear your uniform every day that you train.

The enrollment fee includes payment for the uniform and includes:

  • One Shaolin t-shirt
  • One set of grey pants
  • One grey Shaolin jacket
  • One satin yellow belt for special occasions and graduation

You may wear any athletic shoe you like. Or, you can purchase Kung Fu training shoes from us for an additional cost.
